My Private Little World was a project for that I created three outfits referring to things which were collected and exhibited in cabinets of curiosities in Renaissance Europe. Being a mixture of facts and fiction the cabinets also featured mystical creatures. I experimented with different fabrics and patterns to find a treatment to let fabrics seem like animal’s skin or create a more fictional impressions like a shrunken head for example.

Ironing and wrinkling fine fabric and treating it with hot glue and varnish I snapped them afterwards in dry condition to get a special structure. Eventually it looks like a crocodile skin.

For the mermaid look I’ve chosen smooth twinkling fabric and made it even more finer and transparently while spinning individual threads.

As the title is My Private Little World the photographs were taken by my sister Saskia Schmidt in my little home town.
